The guidelines were prepared in terms of Section 77 of the Competition Act (89 of 1998, as amended), and are aimed at promoting:

  1. fair competition and competitive pricing in the automotive aftermarket;
  2. an increase in consumer choice in the automotive aftermarket; and
  3. greater participation of small businesses and economic access for Historically Disadvantaged Individuals (HDI) in the automotive aftermarket.
