As a specialist in Mining Law, Refiloe is focused on health and safety, regulatory requirements, and commercial litigation and labour law. Refiloe also regularly assists mining, natural resources and infrastructure operations with issues relating to non-compliance with Mine Health and Safety Laws and applicable regulatory obligations. Refiloe has further expertise in data privacy and advises clients on the Protection of Personal Information Act “POPIA”.  

Refiloe sits as a chair for Disciplinary Hearings in labour law matters.  As an ambitious young woman who is passionate about the growth and development of women in the mining, natural resources and infrastructure sectors, Refiloe is known for supporting the development of women in these sectors. Refiloe is a member of Women in Mining South Africa, a network of professional women working in the South African mining industry.

Marketing and Human Resources

LLB degree and a Postgraduate Certificate in Economics for Law.

Biography

Reflioe has a BCom degree in Law, Marketing and Human Resources; an LLB degree and a Postgraduate Certificate in Economics for Law.  She was previously employed as a Junior Analyst at the Competition Commission of South Africa and gained great insight into the regulatory side of the law of Competition.

Refiloe was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa in March 2016 and practice as an Associate in the Mining department at Hogan Lovells (South Africa) Incorporated immediately thereafter.  She specialises in Mining Law and more specifically in mine health and safety. Refiloe assists mine companies from having their operations shutdown due to non-compliance with mine health and safety laws and she also helps promote good working relationships with the regulators in the mining industry.

Refiloe’s relevant experience in her fields of expertise includes:

– Assisting a mining house with their application to the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy for consent in terms of section 11 of the Mine Health and Safety Act 29 of 1996, as amended.

– Assisting a large, multinational company in the medical technology sector with implementing a POPIA readiness plan.

 – Assisting a travelling agency by chairing a private disciplinary inquiry, compiling the hearing outcome and recommendations.

Refiloe is an ambitious young woman who is passionate about the development of women in the mining industry. She has a goal to be renowned for supporting the development of other women in the mining industry. As such she is a member of WIMSA (Women in Mining South Africa), a network of professional women working in the South African mining industry.
